Dr. Barry H. Downing

Barry H. Downing is a pastor of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Endwell, New York, and is past moderator of the Presbytery of Susquehanna Valley.

He earned a B.A. degree in Physics from Hartwick College, a B.D. degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. degree from University of Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1966, where he specialized in the relation between natural science and Christian theology. Studying in Edinburgh under the supervision of Prof. John McIntyre and Prof. T. F. Torrance, his dissertation was entitled "Eschatological Implications of the Understanding of Time and Space in the Thought of Isaac Newton."

Dr. Downing is the author of the book The Bible and Flying Saucers, J. B. Lippincott (1968), Avon Books (1970 and 1973), SphereBooks Ltd. (1974), and Berkley Books (1989). He has been a Consultant to MUFON in theology for over 22 years. He has published papers in the following MUFON UFO Symposium Proceedings: "UFOS As a Religious Phenomena" (1972), "Some Questions Concerning Dr. Menzel's Biblical Exegesis" (1973), "Religion and UFOs" (1974), "Faith, Theory and UFOs" (1981), "UFOs: Four Questions for Theological Seminaries" (1988), and "ET Contact: The Religious Dimension (1991). He also contributed several articles to The Encyclopedia of UFOs, edited by Ronald Story.

He is presently on the national board of directors for the Fund for UFO Research (FUFOR), Mount Rainier, Maryland, and is listed in the second edition of Who's Who in Religion. He and his wife Kathleen have three sons.
