Keith Basterfield was born in the United Kingdom.

Keith has been engaged in the field of UFO research since 1968. He began this research while in the United Kingdom, and continued his efforts after relocating to Australia.

Keith was the Continental Co-ordinator for Australia and New Zealand for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) for a number of years until he stepped down from that position in 1998. He also facilitated the National-level Australian Abduction Study Centre, and is a member of AUFORN (South Australia). Over the years, Keith has been associated with the former U.S.-based Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO) as a field investigator, and in addition, has worked on material for the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies in the US.

His research work and findings have been published in diverse sources including the (former) APRO Bulletin; extensively in the MUFON UFO Journal; the English Flying Saucer Review; Magonia (U.K.); The Australasian Ufologist Magazine, the UFO Research Australia Newsletter, and various European, and South American magazines/journals. Jointly, with Robert E. Bartholomew and George Howard, a piece appeared in the prestigious "Professional Psychology: Research and Practice" (1991).

Keith is a featured speaker at Australian UFO conferences and is sought after by Australian media sources for informed comment about both Australian and International UFO events.

Trained in the Social Sciences, Keith has applied the rigours of the scientific method to both the general, and more specifically, the UFO abduction phenomenon. His work with Robert E. Bartholomew on the potential application of the mainstream psychological concept, the fantasy prone personality caused some controversial debate in the late 80s to early 90s.

Keith has published two books to date. In 1981, his book on Australian UFO reports, Close Encounters of an Australian Kind, was published, and in 1997 a revised version UFOs: A Report on Australian Encounters was released.

In 1968, he engaged in Ufology. He eventually relocated to Australia where he became the Continental Coordinator for Australia & NZ for until 1998.

2003-2008 – Involved with the Disclosure Australia Project identifying Government information on UFOs.
