Large cylindrical object with cupola and portholes in Duclair, France

On January 12, 1989, a woman at the wheel of her car observes with approximately 30 meters with the top of the marshes an “enormous” cylindrical form comprising at the top a cupola emitting a yellow light and a series of red luminescent port-holes and white at its base. With its passage, the object disappeared and reappeared a few seconds later much higher in the sky. The observation lasted a total of only a few seconds. The investigations did not make it possible to collect other information nor to identify the phenomenon.

The following is a brief summary of the case. The case is from the files of the official French government UFO research program GEIPAN (Group for the Study and Information of Unidentified Aerospace Phenomenon), which is a part of CNES, the French government space agency. The case has been classified as a 'Class D' case, which are the unexplained cases in the GEIPAN files.

Le 12 janvier 1989, une femme au volant de sa voiture observe à 30 mètres environ au dessus des marais une forme cylindrique "énorme" comportant au sommet une coupole émettant une lumière jaune et une série de hublots luminescents rouges et blancs à sa base. A son passage l'objet s'est éteint et s'est rallumé quelques secondes plus tard beaucoup plus haut dans le ciel. L'observation n'a duré au total que quelques secondes. Les investigations menées n'ont pas permis de recueillir d'autres informations ni d'identifier le phénomène.
